"But there aren't medicine leaves! Only medicine cats, who use leaves to heal other cats! But not medicine leaves who fix other leaves. Who would think that? Only an idiot." He grumbled.
(yep, i'm calling goldy an idiot... sometimes she can be one though)

At least he isn't wailing anymore. Songbird thought quietly, listening to the kit calmly. "Maybe there are medicine leaves. Maybe even medicine rocks or clouds - who knows what they do when we're turned around or sleeping?" continued the queen sweetly.

Rainkit still thought that was silly, but was bored of the argument. Instead of replying, he rolled up a ball of moss and swatted it towards a nearby boulder.
"Why do medicine cats use different leaves for different things?" He asked eventually.

"Some herbs only cure certain illnesses." replied Songbird, glad that the conversation had changed. The pale brown she-cat seated herself on the ground, with her tail wrapped around her paws. "And some herbs don't do anything at all. Some are even harmful."

"Harmful?" Asked Rainkit cautiously. "But then why are they there? Starclan should get rid of them so nobody eats them by accident." He said seriously. "If you don't know what the leaves are, if something looks really tasty you could get hurt. And that's bad. Because... Getting hurt is bad."
Another thought suddenly reached him. "What if a bit of prey eats something bad, but before it dies some cat kills it and brings it back for fresh-kill, and no one knows that something is wrong, and someone eats it? That's bad!"

"If StarClan did everything for us, then we wouldn't have to do anything at all. We'd sit on our tails all day and wait for rabbits to fall out of the sky." Songbird replied patiently. It was a hard lesson to learn, but all had to learn it. The light brown queen continued, "The prey would have died very quickly after eating the poisonous plant. Remember that voles and mice are much smaller than us - and they don't have medicine preys to help them. A grown cat dies only moments after eating a single deathberry, something like a rat would die once the juices touched their tongue."

Wandering towards a plant at the edge of camp, he asked, "Is this plant bad? Or good?"

Songbird followed the kit out of the nursery, and took a quick sniff at a plant he had been pointing at. It's leaves were smooth and deep green, and from it rolled off a tantalizing smell. "Catnip!" the light brown queen snapped off one leaf and chewed it carefully. "It calms down your patient's senses and relaxes them." The queen gave the gray kit a long, thoughtful look. "Perhaps... have you ever thought of being a medicine cat? You sure show the willingness."

Dawnstep watched the curious kit happily. A little medicine cat would be a perfect thing to make all the other Clan cats jealous. ShadowClan was growing and Dawnstep was proud.

Rainkit looked up at Songbird.
"A medicine cat? Me? But..." He hesitated "but I'm different from other cats. I don't think they would like me as their medicine cat."

Rainkit considered it, his ears twitching slightly as he thought. "I... I suppose that would be all right..." He said cautiously. "I do like herbs. They're really quite interesting, you know."
