Character's name: Mintpaw
Clan: RiverClan
Occupation: Apprentice
Appearance: Silvery-gray lynx point. The majority of his body is cream colored, but his paws, tail, face, and halfway down his back are silver-gray with dark tabby stripes.
Personality: Mintpaw is lean and strong, he learns quickly and rarely makes the same mistake twice. From a young age he would watch the apprentices train while they were in camp, as such he picked up on several things before ever beginning his training. Mintpaw, however, is socially withdrawn and very shy. He rarely talks to anyone and when he does, it's usually asking a question or for permission or clarification. Even with his denmates that he's known since kithood, Mintpaw has trouble being anything but silent. He'll listen to their conversations and stories and smile and laugh quietly along with them, but he won't join in their topics or jests.
Past: Mintpaw's mother, Stormleaf, was a Riverclan she-cat. She was born and raised in the clan, and took on a mate that she had known since apprenticehood. The two were together for many moons, but in one harsh winter, he died from the inescapable cold. It was a moon later that Stormleaf discovered she would be having his kits. Her pregnancy was normal, and up until the day of her kitting, everything was fine. But something happened in the crucial moments of her labor, and all the kits but Mintpaw were lost. Stormleaf was heartbroken, and had no resolve to be the fit mother her only surviving son needed. But nor would she allow any other queen to raise him.
Mintpaw grew up with this sort of mother. No matter how many cats told her she needed to show her son love and affection, talk to him, teach him, be there to hear his mewls and comfort him, she would not listen. Stormleaf was detached and treated her son as if he weren't hers. Just some kit she was nursing. With no siblings either, Mintpaw became withdraw from this early age. Though the other nursery queens were sweet to him, knowing he needed that kindness in his young life, it wasn't enough to keep him from becoming the quiet cat his is now. Without them, however, it is possible that Mintpaw would have believed there was no love in the world and become cynical and mean, rather than silent and withdrawn.
Mintpaw enjoys life as an apprentice. As a kitten he would often watch the apprentices that would train in camp and replicate what he saw them do as best he could. Now, learning these things for himself, Mintpaw finds that they challenge and intrigue him, and he picks up on them quickly. In the apprentices' den, Mintpaw will listen to his denmates talk and laugh and joke. He enjoys hearing their conversations and, when they argue, backing up the side he agrees with by nodding to himself and smiling as the light-hearted argument goes on and continues without resolve for several days. Mintpaw never makes attempt to join their talking and mewls, nor does he imagine doing so. He's perfectly contented to just listen and be separated from them, while still connected by invisible strings he may not yet even be aware of.
