Being a SkyClan cat was the most wonderful life Nutbringer had ever known. Of course, it was the only life he ever had, but he still thought it was the most beautiful thing ever. He would never want to live under shadows or a leafy canopy, like he once had before the start of the Clans. He loved being in the grassy, forested moors with the blue, sunny sky stretching as far as the keenest eye could see. At night, he slept under gorse bushes, resting on his back, her gorse-coloured eyes gazing up at silverpelt. Sometimes it was uncomfortable, knowing that the stars couldn't talk back, but he still enjoyed it. Sometimes, if you stared at the heavens for long enough, everything turned topsy-turvy and everything around you felt like they were swirling and twisting, while your body fell into the dark sky. Tonight, he was under the shining stars again. Nutbringer heard the soft pattering of pawsteps behind him...

dawnpaw had come up behind Nutbringer and gazed up at the glittering stars in wonder. "StarClan..... Someday, i'll live there." she murmered, still watching the stars shimmer. Then, out of nowhere, a star seemed to disappear, before it shot across the sky, and almost looked like it had a shining tail. Dawnpaw watched, entranced. After the blazing star faded completely from sight she turned towards Nutbringer.
"So, do you come out here often to watch the stars? I come out every night that it's clear... but usually to a different spot." she purred.

The night was cool and moist. The stars shone with pride. Oh, StarClan... Cherrypaw said silently. The night was beautiful. ''Oh StarClan..'' she said again, aloud. There'd been only a few times in her life she'd seen such. The Abyssinian apprentice gazed up in wonder. Suddenly, out of no where, a star streaked across the sky, it's tailing ending in a bright blue gleam.
There was a faint pattering sound, like footsteps. Cherrypaw pondered the sound. It must be another cat. Cherrypaw walked in the noise's direction, not the in the least shy. What reason would there be on a night like this? Soon she heard a voice. Female. It must be a SkyClanner. No other Clan should be foolish enough to attack a SkyClanner this deep in the territory, this far away from the campsite. The SkyClanner kept on walking, looking out for the other cat.
She saw a white figure in the clearing. It was feline, another cat. The scent of SkyClan wafted from the cat to Cherrypaw's nostrils. Golden eyes scanned the clearing, and stopped at a gorse bush. There were two cats! The latter was crouched under the leafy bush. ''Hello,'' Cherrypaw said. ''Glorious night, isn't it?'' she added.

"Dawnpaw turned at the sound of another cat's voice. She saw a fellow apprentice walk towards them. "it is a wonderful night Cherrypaw! I feel so close to StarClan. I... I iwsh I could see what it's like... but it is not my time." she sighed, her orange splotched coat shining under the light of the stars and moon.

Nutbringer held his breath as he watched a comet shot across the deep royal-blue skies, temporarily streaking the heavens with etches of bright blue clawmarks. His honey-brown ears instinctively flicked up at the soft pattering of pawsteps. The SkyClan warrior stiffened, preparing himself for a fight against a mange-ridden rouge, but his muscles softened at the automatic waft of SkyClan pelts. He rolled over his back, and saw Dawnpaw and Cherrypaw. Just the lovely-tempered SkyClan apprentices. "Hello!" He grinned amicably. "So, do you come out here often to watch the stars? I come out every night that it's clear... but usually to a different spot." "I do, all the time!" replied Nutbringer, amazed that another SkyClan cat shared his hobbies. No longer would be feel slightly embarassed. He added quickly, "The best spots are right on top of hills, because there you'll be closer to the stars. Have you seen rainbows at night too?"
Cherrypaw spoke up. 'Glorious night, isn't it?' Nutbringer nodded, returning his gaze to the soft pinpricks of light. "So peaceful too." A lonely cricket chirped some distance away from the spot where the three cats stood. The golden-brown tom closed his green eyes as Dawnpaw spoke up again. "Of course it's not your time! It's not my time either. But the stars would be a lovely place to live one day." Do all cats go to the stars, the purest of hearts and darkest of souls?

''Yes, indeed,'' Cherrypaw replied to Nutbringer. ''It is rare to find myself out of camp at night. Because, you can see that stars in your dreams. I love the little messages and visions they send.'' The brownish-red she-cat turned back to the stars, the cold glitter brightening until they almost filled her vision.

Dawnpaw smiled at the passion in Nutbringer's words. "The hills are great.. but I usually climb that tree over there... near the topmost branches there is a spot that makes you feel one with StarClan." she purred, and pointed her tail towards a tall pine tree, almost black in the light of the stars. Dawnpaw lay down on the cool grass and spoke again.
'I can show you the spot if you like.. it's not hard to get to." the she cat let a corner of her mouth turn upwards into a s;y grin.

"What messages do the stars send you?" asked the maple syrup-coloured tom, completely engrossed. He added, curious, "DO they send you dreams too? I expect the Dark Forest sends nightmares to cats dream when they occasionally get to break through the facade between the waking world and the dead world." A shiver pressed against his spine. Nutrbinger was thoroughly enjoying his usual patch of dewy grass and a skyful of coldy glowing pinpricks of light - but a new spot would be fun to find too. An adventure, perhaps. Maybe the tallest tree in SkyClan, on top of the highest hill would let Nutbringer reach the sky. Of course, he would also have to stretch his neck a little bit too. "Let's go, then!" He purred happily, leaping onto his paws.

Dawnpaw grinned and started forward. "This way! Just follow me!" she mewed in a sweet voice. Quick as thought the she-cat dashed towards the tree, then turned around suddenly. "You too . Cherrypaw!" she called back to the other two.
When Dawnpaw reached the trunk of the dark, pine tree she dug her claws in and climbed skillfully up into the top-most branches, stopping when sahe reached a long, thick branch where there where only a few pine needles, almost in the shape of a very large nest. Dawnpaw lay down on the bed and called down to Cherrypaw and Nutbringer. "C'mon! There's a great view!"

Nutbringer followed after his friend, soon clawing and pulling himself up the sap-sticky branches of a very tall and very old pine tree. Without knowing, he soon settled himself into a discarded eagle's nest. The golden brown tom settled down on a little dip with cracked eggshells and molted downy feathers. "Hey, the view's great here!" He paused for a moment, peering at the light-scattered sky. The stars winked and glowed back at him. I wish we could just stay here forever. Without a worry." |

''They're not actually spoken messages. More like visions. I've always had them. They have background messages. I know one thing: they're not from StarClan. But they're not evil, so I don't think they're from the Dark Forest,'' she said. Cherrypaw turned to follow the others up the hills. She climbed up the sappy tree with them, right below Nutbringer. ''Wow, it is nice up here!'' the apprentice exclaimed as she got up to the higher branches. The stars were huge and bright. ''It's like I can almost touch them...'' she smiled wistfully.
